Giving a big thumbs up on Portland’s new “Street Seats” Pilot program for reclaiming community space. On a recent ride through the wonderful Mississippi Neighborhood I came upon a convenient seating patio area outside of a local pizza shop. Not blocking the sidewalk, but rather designed to fit in to an adjacent parking space. Brilliant! New York- we are trying to catch up with you, Europe… , well at least we are trying. This photo is not the Mississippi location, but one of a few designs.
Check out this great piece on cycling economy from Co.EXIST!
The information in this hand graphic makes it clear that spending money on bike infrastructure can have far-reaching positive economic impacts. By now, we all know that cycling is good for health, fitness, cutting road accidents, reducing carbon emissions, and increasing energy security (and so on, and on). But what about biking’s economic impact–its cyclonomics, if you will?

Congratulations to Stephan Hall and Kelly Greengard who got engaged last week on a sunny afternoon bike ride. What a perfect way to pop the question, and to start an adventure together for the rest of their lives. Just check out those smiling faces- we wish you the best of luck and love. It seems that more and more people are integrating bikes in to their romantic lives, as we have more wedding rides and reception cruises this year. I have to say, one of the best parts about working at the bike shop is meeting all the fun people with interesting stories of adventure and excitement.

Reveal the Path is a genre-defying adventure film that contemplates what it means to live an inspired life using the bicycle as a mechanism to explore, dream and discover.
Regions explored include Scotland’s lush valleys, Europe’s snow capped mountains, Morocco’s high desert landscapes, Nepal’s rural countryside and Alaska’s rugged coastal beaches. Ride along and get lost in the wonders of the world… Meet the locals living modest yet seemingly fulfilling lives, leading us to question what it means to live an inspired life – however humble or extravagant. Filmed across four continents and featuring Tour Divide race legends, Matthew Lee & Kurt Refsnider, this immersive film is sure to ignite the dream in you.
Join in as the creators of Ride the Divide take you on an adventure that will leave you with an eager desire to chart your own course to far away lands or simply to discover with eyes wide open what’s right around the bend.
Filmakers will be in attendance and live music from soundtrack artist Dominique Fraissard
